Consulting is at the core of our business model

Consultancy is at the core of our business model. Being a company owned and operated by engineers, Compflow knows well the challenges that can occur providing the most efficient computational engineering outsourcing service. Our verified methodology can help reduce or in some cases completely eliminate expensive experimental work. Through CFD, complex flow scenarios can be visualised during the development phase minimising design iteration time and cost.

Although beneficial, it is not essential for our clients to have knowledge on how to conduct CFD studies.

Description

Compflow provides a complete outsourcing service utilising the extensive in house computational facilities. For most cases an engineering description of the project is usually enough for us to initiate the discussion and propose a solution that meets client’s requirements. The essential input from the customer side is the geometry/area that needs to be analysed and the operating flow conditions. We are then able to simulate every aspect of fluid flow extracting and delivering the required engineering quantities.

There are generally two ways that Compflow offers its consultancy services:

Project based service: it’s an on demand offer of consultancy service with predefined deliverables and deadlines. In this case the company is only committed for the agreed deliverables and the cooperation ends when the project is delivered.
Yearly based service: The customer obtains a predefined number of consultancy hours that last a year. This is the optimal choice when the customer anticipates a constant workflow during a year.

Workflow

The consultancy work is usually completed in the following steps:

  1. Problem description: It is an important step where we need to understand the required complexity and the required computational power. The customer explains in detail his requirements and required deliverables.
  2. Proposal creation: This is the official proposal that includes a detailed list of deliverables, timescales and cost. The proposal can be reviewed by the customer who can suggest additions or removals. The final iteration of the proposal is a binding document between both parties.
  3. Geometry construction: This is perhaps the most time-consuming part from clients prospective. It is essential obtain all the required geometrical parameters. We have experience doing this though blueprints and in cases where they are not available a 3D scan could be deployed. In any cases an already created electronic version of the geometry is the preferred choice when available.
  4. Computation assumptions agreement: In computational sciences, there are a number of cases where various assumptions have to be made in order to reduce the computational complexity. These range from geometry simplifications to flow conditions. We always agree on those before we proceed to the next step.
  5. Execution of the computational study: This is when the actual computation takes place. It is a fairly transparent step since this is done with almost no interaction with the customer
  6. Preliminary results: Once the computational study is obtained we make a short presentation with the key findings. This is when the client confirms that he is happy with the results.
  7. Final report: This is the formal and official documentation outlining the methodology used, the results and conclusions of the study

All of the consultancy and development work will only be conducted by Compflow personnel at the company premises and will never be outsourced to a third party. We operate under very strict bidirectional non-disclosure agreements protecting our in house developed methodology and clients’ intellectual property.
